ICLEI Convention in Brussels - Cities in Europe 2020
Should Europe concentrate on growth to the detriment of sustainable development, or are these two concepts in fact compatible? The ICLEI convention “Cities in Europe 2020 - Enhance Sustainability Now” will consider this question from 12 to 14 September 2011 in Brussels.
Along with the members of ICLEI, other European cities and representatives of European institutions will gather to exchange experiences and good practices allowing sustainable cities, with low carbon emission and resistant to climate change, to be created.
These topics will be considered, among others:
- Sustainable growth and the green economy.
- The way in which specific sustainable activities as well as an appropriate policy response from cities can allow the present crises to be surmounted.
- The results of the “6th European Sustainable Cities Conference” in Dunkerque in 2010 as well as ways to progress along the path of sustainable development.
The participants will also discover the “Brussels, Sustainable City” exhibit and the “Train of Ideas” from Hamburg, European Green Capital in 2011, and will explore numerous innovative Brussels initiatives during study visits organised on the occasion of this convention.
On Tuesday the 13th, the EESA “European Energy Services Awards” ceremony will reward European participants who have played an innovative role in the field of energy-efficient services.
ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability is an association of over 1220 members from 70 different countries. It is made up of local governments as well as national and regional organisations and local authorities who have committed themselves to sustainable development.
