A collective composting site in your neighbourhood? Take part in the call for projects!
Some forty community groups have already got together in the Brussels region to compost their waste. Why don’t you do the same and make the most of this call for projects?
Would you like to find out more about the joys of composting but haven’t got a garden or a terrace?Set up a project for a neighbourhood composting site with other people and take part in the call for projects to create new neighbourhood composting sites.
The development of collective composting deserves special attention. Why? Because it allows households without a garden, or not enough space to do their own composting, or those with a communal garden to reduce their waste production.
In practice, neighbourhood composting or collective composting consists of composting organic waste (from the kitchen and garden) from several people in a shared compost heap.Participating households are invited to bring their biodegradable kitchen waste and, if necessary, their garden waste to a site where this waste is then composted.
Call for projects
To encourage neighbourhood composting, Brussels Environment is launching the fourth call for projects, with the allocation of a grant (maximum EUR 1000) to create new neighbourhood composting sites. All the projects can of course benefit from the advice of master composters and the nonprofit association Worms, responsible for supporting neighbourhood composting sites.
The projects must be submitted to Brussels Environment before 16:00 on 29th June (you can download the necessary documents below).
How do you start up a neighbourhood composting site? What do you need to take into account? What materials do you need? How does the collaboration between the organisers and participants work?
You can find the answers to all these questions at an information session:
Where? Maison de la paix, Rue van Elewijck 35, 1050 Ixelles
When? Saturday 9th June at 10:00.
Registration? You can register for this information session via the nonprofit association Worms (02/611.37.53 - firstname.lastname@example.org).
